8am – coffee shop – check emails
After getting up at 7am, your first order of business is to head down to your local coffee shop and check email. If you’re lucky, it won’t be too busy (you hate waiting for a seat or table), but you’ll probably want to make sure there are free outlets at every table.
9am – client meeting
I enjoy my role as a Bangor accountant because it gives me flexibility to work with different types of businesses and different industries. Today, I’m meeting with a client to review their books and give them advice on how they can get out of debt. A great accountant in Bangor has intimate knowledge about what it takes to be successful. That’s why I am constantly educating myself by reading business publications and networking with like-minded professionals like myself.
10am – client meeting
The best part about being a CPA is interacting with clients. Every day brings a new opportunity to learn something new and apply it to our business. Today, we’re meeting with a client who is getting married next year and wants to set up a retirement plan for their business as well as file taxes for the past two years. It should be a very rewarding experience.

I check out a client meeting to get a feel for what they’re all about. During these meetings, I try to learn as much as possible about them and their business. This helps me connect with them better and can even result in some good leads for future clients. I also think that it’s valuable just to get out of my comfort zone once in a while, so that I can see what other people are going through and offer solutions from a more holistic standpoint.
12pm – lunch break
Accounting is not a physically demanding job, so you can afford to splurge on lunch. If you’re short on cash (and really, who isn’t?), there are normally numerous competitively priced sandwich shops locally that are relatively inexpensive and convenient.
1pm – client meeting
Once upon a time, I thought it would be really cool to be a accountant. The hours seemed better, and it seemed like you had more control over your destiny. That was until I started doing it for real. We recently hosted a client meeting to take them through their year-end accounts and action plan for next year – we take them out for lunch and talk about how we can improve their cash flow, support their business growth, and reduce their overall costs.
2pm – client meeting
By 2pm, if I’m not out on a client meeting, I’ll already be working on financial statements and budgets for my business clients. In addition to doing accounting services for small businesses, I also have a small bookkeeping department that takes care of day-to-day accounting needs for these same clients. For me personally, it’s a nice way to keep a finger on their pulse while I stay up to date with what’s going on with them from a financial perspective.
